We provie the first systematic assessment of the worldwide activities of the four main types of Italian mafias (Cosa Nostra, Camorra, ’Ndrangheta and Apulian mafias) from 2000 to 2012. We analyzed the presence and specific activities of the four Italian mafias in the countries of the world

Why is it important?

The study complements the existing literature on the presence of Italian mafias in specific countries. Contrarily to case studies, it provide a broader assessment. Mafia presence is concentrated and varies according to countries and type of mafia.
