CBPR is an approach that enables community members to collaborate with local organizations, health care providers, and researchers in all aspects of research to find practical solutions for community health problems.CBPR has emerged in the past decades as an alternative research paradigm, which integrates education and social action to improve health and reduce health disparities.

Why is it important?
Among developing countries, Iran is one of the first to use a CBPR approach to address public healthshortcomings. Health companion project is a model of this approach that designed and implemented by us to meet this demand.The previous health needs assessment and priority setting project in theKohgiloyeh and Boyerahmad province has identified a long list of problems and potential areas for research and led to the emergence of the Health Companion Project as the model for CBPR in this province.
Perspectives
In this article we describe how the Health Companion Project was developed and implemented, in order to provide a model to assist local public health agencies in their partnerships with local communities to plan, conduct, and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs.
