What is it about?

This papers details the assessment and intervention of 3 to 5 years olds showing coordination disorders. To assess the children, the Early Years Movement Skills Checklist (EYMSC) was completed by the teachers, and from the results of this, individual intervention was developed for the children according to their need.

Why is it important?

This study is important as all children improved their motor skills after 10 weeks of intervention. We are cautiously optimistic that, if children can be helped whilst they are still developing their motor skills, ithey are unlikely to develop Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) in the future. In addition, unlike older children who are diagnosed with DCD, the children in the study had not developed any of the co-occurring difficulties (such as low self esteem, poor academic achievement..
