What is it about?
Like vectors simplify the handling of multi-component quantities, perturbators (a new entity introduced in the paper) simplify perturbation methods, i.e. numerical methods involving truncated Taylor series of data.

Why is it important?
Perturbation methods of higher than first order normally result in complicated formulae. Both the derivation of these formulae and their programming for numerical evaluations are simplified by using perturbators. This is demonstrated for two-dimensional free-surface flows around partly immersed oscillating bodies.
Perspectives
The concept appears suitable for all kinds of perturbation methods.
