What is it about?

Should society help share the costs of children? This article examines a view that answers this question negatively.

Why is it important?

Many of our policies distribute the costs of children differently between parents and the rest of society. We need to know how fairness requires that these costs be distributed. Given concerns about population pressure, we also need to know how the fact that parents´having children beyond a certain number may negatively affect others may affect parents´claims to sharing the costs of children.
