Perspectives
This paper comes from a quirky but rewarding research project very close to two personal passions of mine: first, appreciating fine skills involved in manual, craft-based making; and second, a love of vintage boots and western wear. It was a hoot to visit El Paso over a few years and talk to bootmakers about their art, craft and leathers, but also challenging to come to terms with where the materials come from and the ethical issues involved.
