Perspectives

The composition of the poem featured in this article resulted from many months spent with hill farmers in the UK's Lake District National Park, working alongside them and learning about what really matters to them. The loss of farms and difficulties for younger generations to farm have been pertinent issues for many years. I felt that a poem was the most powerful way to express this while also conveying landscape and personalities. This poem was part of a larger collection of prose and poetry featured alongside Rob Fraser's photographs of farmers and landscape in 'Land Keepers' (www.landkeepers.co.uk).
