What is it about?

This case study explores how residents of South LA respond to an effort to develop "solutions journalism" coverage of their community. Solutions journalism is rigorous reporting on responses to social problems. The article follows an collaboration between a university, community organizations, and local journalists to do a reporting series on South LA, a community that historically has been stigmatized by negative coverage. Residents participated in a series of focus groups sharing their perspectives on solutions journalism and how media represents their community.
