What is it about?

The work is based on analysing the quality of engine oils used in marine engines. Different oil analysis techniques such ICP, FTIR, NMR and ferrography along with tribo-testing showed that additives in oil responsible for preventing wear of engine components had depleted as function of oil service cycles in engines. Further analysis of engine components such as cylinder liner showed the effect of depletion of such an oil additives on excessive wear.
