What is it about?

Tissue engineering allows the treatment of lost or malfunctioning organs through temporary scaffolds, which lead the generation of new tissues or organs. In the frame of this project, an extension of the investigation in this area is going to be performed, focused on the mechanical behavior of these structures. More specifically, how the manufacturing process (e.g. imperfections on the structures) affects the final mechanical behavior is studied.

Why is it important?

The investigation in this area is of paramount importance since a high number of patients die from diseases that could be treated through temporary scaffolds. The higher the knowledge on this area, the closer the effectiveness in real life situations.
