What is it about?
A look at the impact of recent strategies for reforming the criminal justice system using the case of juvenile justice reforms in Texas.

Why is it important?
States across the country are pursuing criminal justice reforms and attempting to do something to address mass incarceration. This paper cautions against some of the most popular reform strategies. I argue that these "alternatives" entrench the justice system in the lives of thousands of youth. The policies I am looking at have grave consequences for young people caught up in the justice system in the US.
Perspectives
The paper joins many other scholars that have turned to evaluations of justice reforms and shows some of the real lived consequences of these policies on the ground.
