In this review we describe data showing the benefits of taking low dose cholinesterase inhibitors prophylactically have great potential to slow or prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease. This occurs by maintaining brain connections that rely on nerve growth factor signaling.

This is important because the aging population is at great risk of developing age onset Alzheimer's disease. Simply taking daily doses of an FDA approved drug like Donepezil has great potential to protect the brain.
