What is it about?
Electoral Systems affect how legislators think about, and do, their jobs. Looking at the Scottish Parliament, we show how constituent MSPs and regional MSPs differ in how they engage in representation.

Why is it important?
Our work uses new quantitative measures of the roles legislators adopt when representing their constituencies. It also shows a clear connection between how legislators are elected and the type of work they do. Finally, our work provides additional support that members of the Scottish Parliament adopt different roles, which we know from surveys of MSPs.
Perspectives
This work builds on my existing work on representational roles and styles and legislators in the U.S. Congress, showing the generalizability of my findings that legislators use their legislative work to communicate their representational styles and strengths to constituents and party activists.
