What is it about?

Fiction podcasts are a new medium that combines conventions of radio with new digital methods of production and distribution. This article uses the example of cult favourite podcast The Adventure Zone to show how engagement with fans through digital media allows fiction podcasts to better represent the diversity of their audiences.

Why is it important?

Podcasts (and particularly fiction podcasts) are currently an under-represented field in scholarship, despite being a hugely popular source of entertainment around the world that continues to grow in influence. Studies that start to develop a critical language for studying podcasts and the unique things they can do are vital for beginning to contextualise the medium in our contemporary culture.
