What is it about?
This critical introduction to the special issue demonstrates how the abstract concept of modernity has been theorized in strong relation to the experience of modern city life. It criticizes the Euro-centrism of this conceptual development and asks whether a truly global concept of urban modernity could be developed that would be productive for understanding city life in the 21st century.
