What is it about?

Based on a Canadian study of LGBTQ experience in fertility clinics, this paper traces three narratives to illustrate the barriers queer and trans people face as clients of fertility clinics, and suggests a framework to increase inclusivity in the practices of clinic staff.

Why is it important?

While queer and trans people are increasingly accessing fertility clinics in order to become parents, fertility clinics remain profoundly heterosexual, cisgender spaces. This article attempts to disrupt this and to insist on practical changes that recognize the diversity and range of fertility clinic clients.
