What is it about?
The article examines research into pay discrimination. It then compares the law applying to gender pay gaps to that which applies to race, disability, age and other discriminatory pay gaps to see whether the Equality Act 2010 offers equal protection to all types of pay discrimination. It looks at the structure of the legislation and remedies available for each type of pay discrimination.

Why is it important?
Increasingly research indicates that workers suffer pay discrimination because of their race, disability, age or other protected characteristic. It is important that the legal protection offered is effective. This article concludes that more protection is available against gender pay discrimination than other types of discriminatory pay and proposes changes in the law to improve protection and help close these pay gaps.
