What is it about?
Generally the evaluation of piston ring-pack tribology has been carried out in two approaches: developing analytical models and developing empirical models, the present review summarizes all this approaches.

Why is it important?
This study reviews different models for evaluating piston ring-pack and liner lubrication, and frictional losses. The literature review indicates that piston ring– liner interface lubrication is a complex phenomenon, which has a significant impact on oil consumption and frictional losses. Analytical and numerical methods for examining piston ring–liner trajectory losses and lubrication have received widespread attention from researchers due to the fact that piston ring-pack shows different behaviors in different situations.

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations.
