This paper describes the role of visuality (i.e. gesture, body movements, pictures, digital artifacts...) in the legitimation of a service or an organization.

Why is it important?

Legitimation is at the heart of management. And in our immaterial, service-oriented, digital world, it requires a lot of materialization, performation, visualization to embody the service or products and justify the price customers will pay for something they cannot really 'touch', 'see' or 'test' before buying it.

Perspectives

François -Xavier de Vaujany is a professor of Management at Université-Paris-Dauphine. He is interested in the relationship between information/communication and their relationships with organizations and organizing. His latest research is focused on the legitimation and communication of new work practices (i.e. digital nomads, coworkers, makers, teleworkers...).
