What is it about?

Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are increasingly being used by feminist campaigns. This paper examines how the work undertaken by moderators who work behind the scenes on these campaigns can be framed as a form of digital labour.

Why is it important?

The findings of this paper show that feminist activists are largely unrecognised for their work in online campaigns. It also examines the effects of their labour in online campaigns, and acknowledges the exposure to burnout and stress that activists face as a result of their involvement.
