What is it about?

This study deals with the extent of in-ICU mortality and its predictors among admitted pediatric patients in selected Ethiopian tertiary care hospitals.

Why is it important?

In Ethiopia, there are a small number of pediatric ICUs established for pediatric patients, and in addition to that; there is an inadequate resource to provide care for critically ill patients. This makes the establishment of adequate service and the enhancement of outcomes difficult. So, there is a great need to conduct an extensive study on the hospital basis, particularly the ICU basis, to obtain reliable information in this area. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine the incidence of mortality and its predictors among patients admitted to selected tertiary healthcare hospitals in Ethiopia.

Perspectives

I hope this research paper is interesting as a greater understanding of these problems will inform programmers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to strengthen pediatric ICU services and other health programs to realize the Sustainable Development Goals targeted child mortality reduction in low-income countries including Ethiopia.
