What is it about?

A study evaluating a combination of skincare products was performed on 253 women starting radiotherapy. The objective was to evaluate the tolerance of a specific dermocosmetic regimen on the irradiated area and the effectiveness in delaying or reducing the intensity of acute dermatitis. Patients were provided with a skincare kit before the first therapy session. The results revealed 2 categories of users who were defined by the number and frequency of product used. 36% were defined as low users, and 57% as heavy users.

Why is it important?

This study shows that this skin care regimen was well tolerated on irradiated skin. More importantly, it showed that heavy product users observed less frequent radiodermatitis reactions than low product users.

Perspectives

This research highlights that there are indeed new ways to prevent and manage radiodermatitis.
