Why is it important?

Our findings demonstrate the difficulties in dismantling the traditional forms of masculinity. We show that upholding traditional depictions of masculinity (hyper-masculinity) is important to the construction of progressive men's identity constructions. We also show that progressive men may actually gain prestige by upholding and then distancing themselves from traditional depictions of masculinity.
