What is it about?

This is the first study to demonstrate the efficacy of an online parenting program for parents of preschoolers at risk of developing ADHD. Having a hyperactive/inattentive preschooler can be quite a challenge for parents, leading to parenting stress and negative parent-child interactions. This study compared two groups of parents, one that received access to the online parenting program straight after completing the first set of questionnaires and another group that received the intervention at a later stage.

Why is it important?

Offering an online parenting program to parents who struggle with their hyperactive/inattentive preschooler can be a first step approach to targeting preschool ADHD. The number of families dealing with these issues exceeds the availability of clinicians. The study results indicate that the program is effective in improving both child and parenting behaviour.

Perspectives

Internet is one of the preferred methods for parents to seek advice on parenting. Parents can do it in their own time in the privacy of their own home. Distinguishing between reliable and unreliable information is a difficult task, which is overcome by having access to an online parenting program such as in the current study, which is evidence-based.
