What is it about?
The author discusses how adolescent male readers of color construct meaning from, or find relevance in, the books they read inside and outside of school. This article focuses, in particular, on a group of young men's responses to THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X and HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE. Findings point to the complexities of students' meaning-making processes and the importance of accounting for young people's perspectives within literacy education practices.
