What is it about?

Nonlocal peridynamic materials describe long-range interactions in continuous bodies and especially in elasticity. The paper shows how to replace an isotropic peridynamic linear elastic material by a linear nonsimple material. The ordinary and higher-order elastic constants of such this replacement are calculated explicitly in terms of the nonlocal interaction.

Why is it important?

A peridynamic framework of the theory of materials provides a higher flexibility and scope than the classical (Cauchy) framework. The theory is still under construction.

Perspectives

A continuation of the research initiated in this paper will involve nonisotropic (crystalline) materials.
