What is it about?

Shortages of cancer drugs is an emerging serious issue. We described how to support the use of expired supply of alemtuzumab, a unique anti-leukemic drug, based on basic pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles.

Why is it important?

Emerging drug shortages mean that health professionals may need to decide if patients are to receive no treatments, vs. receiving theoretically appropriate treatments. We have shown that it is possible to support the use of expired supply of a drug based on sound scientific reasoning in the absence of direct clinical evidence.
