What is it about?

How long does it take to find emergency housing for a human trafficking or domestic violence survivor? When one shelter is at full capacity, finding another placement can take hours or days accomplished only by calling one agency after another until the needs of the survivor and the resources available are matched. The Safe Shelter Collaborative is an innovative web based application that sends a blast alert to a geographical network of service providers to exchange information about need for housing and bed availability. The Collaborative was developed through a partnership between Caravan Studios of TechSoup and Sanar Wellness Institute, a direct service spin-off of Polaris, an organization that runs the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

Why is it important?

Using the technology shortens the wait for emergency housing placements, expands resources for human trafficking survivors and has transformed domestic violence agencies to expand their work to include human trafficking.
