What is it about?

The rates of sexual assault in the general population is high. Many of the victims/survivors are members of a church. How a clergy member understands and talks about sexual assault can have a major impact on how and whether congregants seek help and how they recover from the assault. This study looks at how clergy view sexual assault in female victims/survivors.

Perspectives

As a licensed psychologist, I've worked with many survivors of sexual and domestic assault. I've seen how their faith and membership in their churches can play a helpful or hurtful role in their recovery. I wanted to do this study to understand the factors that impacted how clergy view sexual assault victims/survivors, and how best to help clergy work with the victims/survivors in their congregations.
