What is it about?
This study looks at violence against female international students in Australia and the United States of America. It is argued that while violence against male international students received much attention, violence against female international students tended to be an unspoken topic. Much of the violence was committed by males who were known to the victims and from the same national groupings.

Why is it important?
The importance of this work is that it is the first systematic qualitative inquiry into violence against female international students.
Perspectives
This study evolved from a larger project relating to international students and crime, which was the focus of my Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship (APD) 2010-2013. It is revealing that from 150 interviewees' perspectives, violence against female students was believed to be the most common serious form of crime committed against international students in general.
