Why is it important?
The creative writing workshop has, for over a century, been in constant and successful use in the U.S., and many decades of research support its use as a student-centered pedagogical approach, something in high demand in 21st century classrooms. This article offers the lived essence of longitudinal experience from workshop participants in answer to the workshop model's most vocal critics.
Perspectives
In my ten years of teaching creative writing workshops, i have born witness to the power of this process, and i have watched participants use it to become better writers, successful students, and productive members of society. in recent years, the workshop model has come under increasing attack, and this article responds by allowing participants to discuss and respond to major points of criticism in uniquely creative ways.
