What is it about?

In this paper we explore how we used poetic conversation via email as a way of building trust and destabilising neoliberal expectations within the academy

Why is it important?

The shift to fast Doctorates in neoliberal universities limits the time to develop meaningful supervision relationships with a focus on 'outputs' and productivity. This paper resists the shift and acknowledges the importance of building trusting relationships.

Perspectives

Employing poetry as a form of communication, via email, with my supervisor was important to our relationship and to my work in the PhD. This work represented my growing understanding of how I could work as an academic in a neoliberal university while simultaneously enact my belief in the importance of building trusting relationships.
