What is it about?

The authors investigated the location of pulmonary embolism (PE) diagnosed on gynecologic postoperative days 1 and 2, and also investigated the clinical characteristics of women who were diagnosed with postoperative PE within 2 months after surgery.

Why is it important?

The present study is important because little is known about the identifying PE in the early postoperative phase.

Perspectives

Some women with pulmonary embolism showed few symptoms even though they have emboli in their lobar arteries or more proximal sites on post-operative days 1 or 2. Fatal events might occur when such asymptomatic or few-symptomatic cases would be overlooked.
