What is it about?

Studies on adults' intellectual abilities are rarely discussed. In this paper, we offer the possibility to read extensively about the role of verbal knowledge, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed for their intellectual functioning.

Why is it important?

We think our research will be important for three main reasons: a. clinicians should not use the FSIQ to evaluate intellectual giftedness but they should inspect each broad cognitive ability measured on an intelligence test; b. intellectually gifted individuals have not necessarily reached degree level at college or high level positions at work; c. evaluating cognitive abilities in adulthood could contribute to making a more appropriate psycho(patho)logical diagnosis (Webb et al., 2016) and/or for occupational placement and planning (Nauta & Ronner, 2013).

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article also lead to people with extremely high intellectual abilities contacting me and ultimately to a greater involvement in giftedness research.
