What is it about?
Achieving fusion in patients with critical amounts of talar body bone necrosis has been challenging. Previous techniques have shown suboptimal results despite their wide application. This paper introduces a method to achieve fusion of the hind foot while maintaining limb length in a more reliable fashion than previous methods.

Why is it important?
A recent paper by Jeng at al. demonstrated that the widely utilized option of femoral head allograft bone block fusion for talar body bone loss is quite unreliable with an approximately 50% failure rate overall and 100% failure rate in diabetics. This paper provides a better alternative to the previously described and extensively utilized femoral head allograft bone block fusion.
