What is it about?
This paper documents how fathers of individuals with autism describe their experiences helping others understand their children's diagnoses. Through individual interviews they document their frequent experiences with microaggressions based on stereotypes about fathers' capacity to care for their children and stereotypes about autism symptom presentation.

Why is it important?
As autism diagnoses continue to rise in the United States, this study offers the perspectives and experiences of fathers raising individuals with autism to help counselors and other allied health professionals serve fathers and families more compassionately and effectively.
