What is it about?

Quite often, scales developed outside of the Jamaican setting are used to measure constructs in Jamaica. The current study reverses that pattern. We have examined whether the Jamaican Macho Scale, which measures masculinity ideologies among Jamaicans, is also valid to measure masculinity among Black African American males.

Why is it important?

The study showed that 'Macho' ideology, which includes sexual dominance and virility, and procreative need, are also applicable to explaining masculinities among Black African American males.

Perspectives

This paper leads the way for additional cross-cultural research to explore the concept of 'Macho' with varying locales, ethnicities and nations.
