What is it about?

Cooperating teachers who have worked with student teachers in our music education program take a week-long workshop to learn about culturally responsive teaching. We surveyed them before and after the workshop to see what they learned and how they plan to use what they learned in their future work with student teachers.

Why is it important?

Knowing how to teach in ways that acknowledge the cultural experiences of students and how those experiences affect how students learn is important for pre-service teachers. If we can help cooperating teachers understand more about culturally responsive teaching, they can help their teaching interns use it more effectively.
