What is it about?

Music education students begin to make music in new ways that stretch and challenge their formal classical backgrounds. With these expanded skills and understandings, they will be better able to make music in a wide variety of settings in and outside of school and create music programs that will reach a broad, diverse population of students.

Why is it important?

Music education programs need to do a better job at preparing students to be musical in a wide variety of settings, both inside and outside of schools, with and without notation, and in a broad range of styles.
