This article was borne from two wonderments...on the one hand, how do music education students view good music teaching, and how can we use practicing teachers to better understand the complexities of teaching in general and good teaching in particular? In addition, I believe that one way to encourage inquiry among teachers is to begin practicing it at the undergraduate level. We used the question, "What is good music teaching?" to explore the moves of music teachers in instrumental classrooms. We conducted case studies of music teachers, and practiced collecting and analyzing data. The final projects were very interesting!
