What is it about?

Using critical race theory to better understand key relationships among parenting, intimate partner violence (IPV), and race. This quantitative analysis of a sample of IPV batterers in an urban center located in the Southeastern U.S. sheds light on differences between African American and white men and women in their reported experiences of IPV. Through this understanding, we suggest interventions that are culturally tailored in order to increase effectiveness of treatment.

Why is it important?

This research is important because it provides a different sort of understanding for why people may use violence in their intimate partnerships differently. Interventions based on this framing may increase effectiveness by using a culturally-relevant treatment as opposed to a one size fits all model.
