What is it about?
The article describes a seminar with social work students. Students learned how to analyse problematic behavior of groups of people behaviorally. They desigined interventions to alter the behavior, e.g. bring students and professors to use re-usable coffee mugs at the cafeteria and to put paper items in the paper recycling bins. The interventions included antecendents (posters and signs prompting readers to show the desired behavior) and consequences (feedback about the change in behavior, e.g. the number of disposable coffee mugs used or recyclable items in the residual waste bins).

Why is it important?
Social work students learned how to perform a study in behavioral community interventions. They learned to use single systems research design to evaluated the success of their internvention. Teaching social workers this methods promotes the scientific staus of social work and evidence-based parctice in general.
Perspectives
Behavioral community interventions are helpful in making this world a better place. Many students of social work are enthusiastic about helping others, doing something for the environment etc. The methods of behavioral community interventions support them in being more effective and persuading others (e.g. the cafeteria mamagement to sell coffee only in re-usable mugs, the facility management to set up paper waste bins).
