What is it about?
24/7 schedules reduce worker's leeway to manage their professional and family responsibilities. Furthermore, when little to none is done in the organization, relationships with supervisors and coworkers become the main source of support for work-family issues. This paper looks at relationships related to work-family strategies of unionized cleaning agents in the transportation industry.

Why is it important?
This work brings an original insight to the work-family interface literature by looking at its relational aspects. Work-family strategies necessarily involve interactions with coworkers or managers. This paper brings out how some people's work-family balancing may benefit from resources that others cannot access because of their position in a social network in relation with their individual characteristics (gender, ethnicity, language, family situation) or work design.
