Mercury pollution from gold mining

Featured Image

Why is it important?

This is the first study to demonstrate that miners using mercury to extract gold can change to a mercury-free method. 37% of the yearly pollution of mercury comes from small scale gold mining.

Perspectives

The study demonstrates that the mercury-free method is doable and by implementing it in more mining communities the global mercury pollution can be reduced considerably
