Why is it important?

Several families in India prefer to care for their terminally-ill patients at home, for cultural and economical reasons. Some palliative care organizations offer a formal model of care, including elements that could be adapted into the country’s public healthcare system, thereby enabling expansion of services to many more suffering. This article analyses the home-based model offered by seven leading organizations.

Perspectives

Enabling quality home-based palliative care to all citizens of India is a personal quest, following an experience in my own family. The analysis in this article is an attempt to understand best practices in the home-based palliative care model.
