What is it about?

In recent years, China has grown from an insignificant player to a major destination in the global market for international students. Based on a questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews conducted in 2013, this study uses Shanghai as an example to examine international students’ experiences in China.

Why is it important?

Most studies are about international students in developed countries. This article is about international students in a newly emerging study destination country - China.

Perspectives

China has not implemented a national survey to study the experiences of international students enrolled in its higher education institutions. This study reflects the first effort by a local educational authority in China to investigate international students’ experiences and satisfaction.
