What is it about?

High nutrient contents in human excreta and urine are well‐established fact. Human excreta and urine are being widely used in different countries like China, Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique and India to their agricultural land in an organised way. Due to the crucial need of organic matter in soil and the lack of alternative source of organic matter, human faeces and urine may be used as fertiliser for its nutrient content in vegetables production, which can serve as a soil conditioner. This allows farmers to reuse or minimise the purchase of chemical fertilisers as a consequence.

Why is it important?

Human excreta and urine allow the optimum recycling of nutrients and organic matter to agriculture. In this concern, a study was undertaken to know the effect of urine as fertiliser through vegetable production (cauliflower and cabbage) in two villages of Comilla District namely Raicho and Hatigara. The study in both villages showed significant effect of urine as fertiliser for producing vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower. Urine acted as the nutrient supplier as like chemical fertiliser, and urine is also capable of supplying plant nutrients for the survival of vegetables.

Perspectives

This present study recommended that urine can act as fertiliser, and farmers may use urine as organic fertiliser for vegetables, production.
