What is it about?
Out-of-pocket expenditure (OOP) is one of the indicators measuring the achievement of Universal Health Coverage. This paper aimed to compare OOP among the insured and uninsured for their out-patient and in-patient healthcare services.

Why is it important?
These findings have important policy implications for healthcare services and delivery not only in the study’s sample but also the general population in Vietnam and other Asian regional countries.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. We hope this article also contributes to the evidence-based to suggest that more active solutions should be created to promote universal health insurance in Vietnam and Asian countries.
