What is it about?
Legislative oversight is an important instrument for the promotion of accountability and good governance. This paper is a comparative analysis of constitutional provisions for legislative oversight in Nigerian and South Africa.

Why is it important?
The ability of the legislature to carry out its oversight responsibility is a sine qua non for accountability. The citizens would be able to access public services when accountability is enforced. By constitutional designs, the governing systems in the two countries empowered the legislature as the central nerve of the policy process.
Perspectives
It is my hope that this paper would arouse more interest, among scholars and policymakers, to concentrate on the need for effectiveness in the legislative process with a view to ensuring that service delivery attained the desired purpose of improving the quality of life of the citizens. A responsible executive is essential for service delivery. And a responsible executive is a product of an effective legislature.
