What is it about?
Demonetization was an important event in India's recent economic history as it led to the sudden withdrawal of over 85% of cash from the system. A large part of the Indian economy has been dependent on cash. A fast-frequency household survey is deployed to estimate the employment before and after demonetization.

Why is it important?
India is the second most populous country in the world and any significant impact on its labor participation rate is important in its own right. The study is important because it demonstrates the use of high-frequency data to estimate the impact of natural experiments.
Perspectives
Consumer Pyramids Household Survey is a continuous survey. It is conducted every day over an all-India sample of over 1,000 households . This provides a unique opportunity to measure the impact of any event that happens naturally by comparing measurements made before the event to the same measurements made after the event.
